Leaders Getting Ready
Leaders Getting Ready (LGR) is a leadership development program in the 5th grade at Hampstead Hill Academy. LGR incentivizes students to maintain good grades and positive behavior. LGR is the prelude to the Leaders Go Places (LGP) which has been a part of our middle school for over a decade. Students in LGP track their grades and behavior and complete community service projects in order to “make level” and earn incentives. LGP helps students understand how to contribute to the common good and be a positive force in the world around them.
In 2022, HHA designed and implemented the Leaders Getting Ready program to prepare students for middle school and LGP. Faculty members talk to students about two promises they should make on a daily basis:
- I will be respectful and responsible.
- I will put forth my best effort in all classes.
These two objectives will lead to student success in every class. Students are awarded points on Class Dojo for displaying these promises.
At the end of each quarter, students who have achieved their goals based on these promises earn incentives. Students get t-shirts and go on field trips. In order to earn these incentives, students must maintain a 80% positive average on Class Dojo and a 75% in all of their core classes.
We believe students in 5th grade should learn to to be responsible for their grades and behavior. In middle school, students begin to take responsibility for their community. LGR is a natural step in the leadership development process at HHA.
